Forgotten HDD password

Hi

I have just returned from a 10 month around-the-world trip and before I left I added a BIOS and HDD password to my latitude D620. I have remembered the BIOS password but I have no recollection of the HDD password.

the message I get is Hard-disk #**76CR5715T-595B, the system Primary HDD, is protected by a password........

Can anyoine assist? My laptop is out of warranty so no one at Dell will help me.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

J

I think there is a program out there that does the trick
but i have no idea of the program starting with the name.
you just type the hdd tag and generate the results.
include the **XXXXXXXX but not the #

i am new in this forum, but keep asking, maybe some 1
may help you with it, i got the feeling this question have
been asked before.

Anyways, good luck with it.

Cheers Jerk. I've been searching Google and this site etc for almost 2 days straight now and I can't find anything. I'm so gutted as all my music and photos are on it.

have you tried to access just the hard drive alone?
if the hard drive is lock, try this tool "Partition Table Doctor"
i think the lates version is 3.5

I set the HDD pasword in the BIOS and even though I can access the BIOS, I can't disable the HDD password without knowing it. This whole episode is driving me mad.

I understand your frustration, but is not time for you to get mad.

do you have another laptop so you can remove that hard drive
and place it on that other laptop? ...if so, try that and then make
a search for the utility i was telling you about.

i know is hard to unlock a hard drive that have been locked in
another computer, but that tool may help you to unlock it so
atleast you can recover some of your important files from it.

Afraid not. I am using my friends swanky Vaio for the moment as I am staying with him untill my tenants move out of my flat (I rented my place out when I was away). I really need to get to my files and all I can understand from what I have read so far is that there is a kind of master password that corresponds with my #**76CR5715T-595B number. OI just can't seem to finds it...

OK, one question...
whats locked in your laptop, the hard drive or the Bios...
having the hard drive locked is one thing, but having the
Bios with a password is another thing.

if thats the case, i hear of a tool called "Latitude_MasterPW.exe"
but i have never tested this tool, so i can't tell you anything about it.

ah! sorry, i was re-reading your question again, and yeah,
your laptop problem is the password protected in the hdd.
