I don't have any sound

I don't have any sound on my compuer I have a problem with my mulimedia audio contreoller and i don't have the driver I ran the cpuz to see what I have. I have an onboard sound.
motherboard p4m266a-8235
chipset via p4m266 (VT8751)
Processor is pentium 4
os is xp
I don't what else is needed. Please help me out.

Do you have the web site for the PC manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer (if custom)? Go to their site and look up the driver for the audio device and re-install it.

BTW, when did the problem first start?

Try the following:

Press win logo key + R
In the run command box type devmgmt.msc
When the Device manager opens, click your computer name.
Go to the menu bar, and click action from the menu option.
In the drop down menu select scan for hardware changes.

Comp will search for drivers.

If this doesn't work then more info about your system will be needed, such as make and model.
