Left 4 Dead running choppy

I just bought Left 4 Dead last night installed it and started playing, but everyone so often the game freezes up for a sec. But in the time thats their no freezing the game runs smooth. I'm pretty sure my computer can play this game at some decent settings, especially the recommended settings they preset. Any ideas on what could be doing this.

Specifcations:
AMD Athlon X2 6400+ 3.2 GHz
2 GB of 800 MhZ Corsair Ram
500 GB Harddrive
BFG 9800 GTX 512 MB
Windows XP Professional SP3

K, I figured it out, PCIGamer go ahead and turn the multicore render off and I bet yours will run fine.
