Ocmctres.exe crashing constantly?

Hello!

I got a problem. After I terminated by computer by the power switch, there's a program called OCMCTRES.EXE which keeps constantly crashing, that is, periodically every 1 minute I get a sign saying Ocmctres.exe has crashed.

I can't find it in the task manager. I can't find it if I search for it (only thing that shows are files in the Prefetch folder). Google won't show up anything for a search.

My only guess it has something to do with the USB-stick I had plugged into the computer at the time?

Please, anyone help?

Please check the spelling. I can't identify "ocmctres.exe."

Hello Bobbye and thank you for your reply!

The spelling is correct, I can't get a lock on it either on my system or on google. That is a part of the mystery.

Somethings there is no other choice but to "assume." Since neither of us can identify this file as a Windows file or part of another process, I think it would be safe to assume it is related to malware.

Since the flash drive was connected at the time you got the error message, please disconnect it and see how the system works. And if I understand you correctly, it does show up in the Prefetch files.

From TweakXP:
Quote:
Here's an easy way to delete your prefetch -- Automatically!!
  • [1] Go into My Computer and go into your hard drive.
[2] Right-click anywhere that a file is not and select the 'New' submenu and click 'Text Document'
    [3] Name it "deleteprefetch"
[4] Double-click on the text file you just created.
[5] Type "del C:\Windows\Prefetch\*.* /Q" (without the quotes).
[6] Go to File > Save As... and choose "All Files" from the "Save as Type" box and save it as "deleteprefetch.bat"
[7] You just created a batch file that will automatically delete all the files in your Prefetch folder.
Reboot the computer and see if the problem has been resolved.

Whether is has or has not, it would be a good idea to take the system through the 3 programs suggested in the Virus and Malware Cleaning HERE.
