Industry Alliance Touts Authentication in Fighting Spam
I hear a lot of talking, but not a lot of doing. All we seem to have is conferences and talks about spam - when is this problem going to be seriously taken care of? With prison terms for those who repeatedly violate anti-spam laws? When are we going to see Microsoft, Apple and all of these other companies who make a fortune off of us doing something to really stop this? Maybe soon....
"Bringing together work done over the past year by vendors and standards bodies, a consortium of some of the largest e-mail providers on the Internet published a proposal Tuesday to advance authentication of e-mail as a tool to fight spam." "IP-based authentication validates that purported senders of e-mail are in fact legitimate senders for their domains. Spammers often utilize weaknesses in current Internet e-mail standards to make mail appear to come from a different domain than that of the actual sender." More here. |
