SGI brings visualization to Linux

Silicon Graphics has brought high-end graphics abilities to its Linux- and Itanium-based computers. Prior to this, their graphics abilities were only available on systems powered by the company's own MIPS processors and Irix operating system. This has helped to slash prices by some 30%, however the Itanium chips run hotter than the MIPS ones, and several features present on the Irix systems are missing from Linux. But this is an important step forward. More here.
