what happens if you go into system settings, network?

do you see a network card marked active under the devices tab?

regarding the information you have requested, what kind of information do you need about my system? i said that i have Linux Fedora 3 and i am currently using KDE GUI. I am running it on an AMD 2800+ but i don't think that is much important...regarding my internet connection, i am trying to set up an ADSL connection using an network card. The modem i am using is an Alcatel Home.
i tried to use the Internet Configuration Wiz but didn't manage to do much. My network card seems to be activated.

When you are running on Windows, does your ADSL modem provide your computer with an IP adress at every boot (DHCP) or do you specify the information in a static manner yourself ?

If your modem does indeed run a DHCP server, you simply need for your network card to be started at bootup. First thing you should try is to look at the state of your network card. You can do this with the following commands :

dmesg | grep eth (this command will print the lines concerning your network device printed during the boot process)
/sbin/ifconfig (this command will show you the state of the network device(s))

Could you post the results of those commands here ?

yes, modem provides my computer an IP everytime i boot.
