Westell Versalink Wireless for Laptop

Hi, I am a total newbie to DSL (but not to computers). I just got a Dell Laptop. I want to connect it to my current Verizon DSL service from my hpDesktop PC. I have a Westell Versalink Wireless Modem and a Dell Wireless PC card. Can I use these two to get internet access on my laptop or do I need to buy a LINKSYS router like Verizon Online Help says I do?
Thanks,
