hairs are smart
If hair are dead cells, why is it that if you shave off your eyebrows and eye lashes, they'll grow back to their original length and then stop growing until you cut them again. This has plagued my mind for many years and I always forget to ask. So what's the scientific answer to this?

I dont know the scientific explanation for this, but I once read a Chinese story called "The Wallet of Kai Lung" (I think) and one of the chapters was about a guy who drank a potion that made all "dead" parts turn to gold. So, when he shaved, he collected the Gold filings, and his hair trimmings etc, and started to build up wealth. However, he eventually started wondering about which limb he could do without so that he'd have enough wealth to marry his sweetheart! Eventually another potion was found that returned him to normal, and he spent a happy life paddling about on the river with his new wife!
Erm...I dont suppose thaat helps really, does it ![]() |

The hair doesn't know, the hair follicles know - those my son aren't dead.
