Deleting quotes

I am at present sending & receiving PM's, is there a way to delete the quote in the reply, other than laboriously back-spacing?, I ask because I have had to go back & delete whole passages. There is no facility now to "check length of message", could this be brought back perhaps?
I tend to print off replies, & refer to them, when writing back.

Maurice.

I do ctrl+a to select all, then begin to type. No need for backspace at all.

Thanks, a lot, Mic, I didn't realise that "select all" worked anywhere.
