Drives not reading discs right. drive or mobo?

alright. i have 2 cd/dvd drives in my computer
1 hp cd writer plus and 1 hitachi gd-5000 both on a gigabyte ga-7n400-l board w/clean install of XP Pro SP2 and all drivers updated

the problem im having is really wierd. i recently got my computer set up with a fresh install of windows xp. the first thing i did was "borowed" some games and installed them, using a keygen for one. the one i used a keygen for, bf1942 didnt work. so i installed my legal copies of road to rome and secret weapons of wwii also, and neither of those worked. then i installed a legit copy of generals, and that didnt work either. then MOH:AA and lo and behold! IT DIDNT WORK! now what is really wierd is that they all installed right. no installation problems whatsoever. the problem occurs when i try to play. it says "please insert correct disc and restart application." and this happened with all of them, and i was using the right discs. so i figured it was EA, and installed a legal copy of COD thinking it would work. my hopes and dreams were shattered a racket ball doused in liquid nitrogen and thrown against the wall, (which btw is the coolest thing that i will ever see in my life, and can only be better high). i got the same results every single time on both drives. i have never ever had this problem before.

but what confuses the crap out of me is how it installs and reads music cds, and just wont play... WTF IS GOING ON!

what are the letters of all your active drives? list them and what they are, e.g. hard drive, cd drive, etc

i dont know yet exactly what the culprit is, but i think you might be able to solve it by right clicking on my computer, cclick manage, click disk management and fool around with drive letters. your drive is physically there, but when it comes time to run a game, the program tries to acess a DIFFERENT drive letter. see what i mean? anyway i just had this problem and thats what i did.

if you cant fix it you could always go to gamecopyworld.com and get the no-cd crack. they have them for every game there is. THIS IS ONLY LEGAL IF YOU OWN THE GAME.

problems

your situation sounds very exactly the same problem i had with my sh2 game how ever after trying for ever to get it to work i had to take my comp into a tech and took them a long time to figure it out also but when they did they found out that even though the game was a bought version from a store you still have to go online and download a patch for the game. never had to do this before till about 6 months ago weird but now the game works its no long asking for the cd or to reinstall the game do to and error
try this i hope it works

alright, the 2 drives that wrent working were assigned D and G. My HDD is C, and i have a removeable drive for back up purposes that will never be hooked up again as D and F (the F drive is a logical network drive or something like that, but on 1 hdd). so i changed it to this A=floppy, C=hdd, D=Hitachi GD-5000, E=HP CDwriterPlus, F & G=removeable Maxtor drive.

another thing i just remembered is my boot order is CD-Rom first, due to the fact that i keep forgeting to change it when i restart, which isnt often. im pretty sure its not what the problem is but im just putting it out there.

i had this problem once before but, i think it fixed itself, or it was only with 1 drive so i didnt bother messing with it but now im just getting annoyed! IM BEING MOCKED BY A MACHINE! i guess thats what you get for dropping it.

NO COMMENTS FROM YOU ZEPHEAD!

have you installed the latest drivers from nVidia. the drivers that COME with the video card SUCK. Do not use them. Download the newest drivers from nVidia, as they often offer much greater performance and stability from manufacturer drivers. If you have not done this, this maybe the problem
also did you install any new hardware if so try removing and uninstalling it and reboot try it see if that helps
i have a 5700fx and my tv card wouldnt let the card work properly and sometimes not at all remove it now it purs like a kitten
its a good idea to have your comp boot from cd rom first
-anouther thing make sure your onboard video chip is disabled by going into your bios and turning it off if you have one and make sure you are using the video card
- one other thing some times there are software conflict and the usaully happen when thing in the backround are running try turning all of them off befor you try to play the game

good luck
