If you dont know what parts to buy yourself, you should probably have someone else build it for you.

What will you use it for(what type of games, doom3 and farcry, or solitaire and chess)? What cpu do you want? Amd? Intel?
Does $700 include xp? Does it include a monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc?

Ok, here's a "suggestion", it may/may not be what you want.

Cpu: Amd a64 939 3000+ $147.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

Motherboard: MSI neo4 nforce4 $89.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...536&CatId=1569

Ram: Corsair Vs 1gb: $89.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=669365

Video: Evga 6600gt $179.99($30 rebate too)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...351110&CatId=0

Case: Powmax black case: $29.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...095&CatId=1509

Hard drive: WD 120gb pata hd: $82.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=291932

Dvd burner: Liteon dvd rw drive: $49.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...37832&CatId=89

Power supply: Vantec Ion2 460w: $64.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...407918&CatId=0

Total: $735.92-
-rebate $30
$705.92

If you need windows xp, add $89.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...8&Sku=M17-7500

Total w/ xp after rebate: $795.91

If you need a monitor: Maybe a reconditioned crt would suit: $69.72($20 reb).
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...6492&CatId=166

Or a new crt: Nec accusync: $129.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...184774&CatId=0

Price after rebates w/ xp and recon. crt: $865.63
Price after rebates w/ xp and new crt: $925.90

So, yeah if you count xp, and a monitor, it'll be a good bit overbudget.

I think that is a good system but rather than the 6600 gt u can go for a 6800 from xfx it is for around $ 219 and can be soft modded so can be converted to a 6800 gt.

Don't forget to add hard drive, and floppy (if needed).

It may be difficult to build a good gaming box on that budget. Cause you want to get the best video you can afford.
Perhaps you could find a case that includes a PS, that may save a penny or two, then add a hard drive. Western Digital likely.

I believe Tiger Direct has barebones systems as well. Maybe look at their barebones A64bit stuff (that would likely be case/PS/mobo/floppy, and sometimes CPU and/or RAM. May be cheaper.

good luck

Yeah, forgot the hd, oops. Add another $80. I didn't figure a monitor because I was just figuring that $700 was for the tower, but if it's for a whole system, tougher to do.

Here's a super budget 939 (yet decent) rig. If you'd go for a socket 754 system it'd be cheaper, but less future ready. It isn't really much cheaper than the one above though.
Mobo:$70
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...075&CatId=1569
Ram:$60
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...386&CatId=1354

Video:$190(-$30 rebate)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2887&CatId=880

Cpu:$150
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

Hd:$82
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...322750&CatId=0

DVD:$50
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...37832&CatId=89

XP:$90
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...8&Sku=M17-7500

Case:$30
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...095&CatId=1509

PSU:$65
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...407918&CatId=0

Total for tower: $787(-$30rebate = $767)

+whatever monitor/key/mouse you want.

Alright lets take some of those parts out cuz I already have a 80gb hard drive, monitor, logitech keyboard, mouse and a lite on dvd burner.

How bout this:

Mobo: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0 $99

Ram: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=1170139 $94.99

Video: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...121824&CatId=0 $189.00 -$30 Final Price: $159.99

Cpu: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1170066&CatId=1177 $147.99

Case: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...935378&CatId=0 $49.99

PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...238&CatId=1079 $39.99

Total: $514.94

What do you think? and remember I can only buy the parts at Tigerdirect.

I think u could go for the PSu suggested by vnf4ultra beacuse its specification are better (even though it is rated at 460 watt to ur 500 watt)

as far as card goes
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...004009&CatId=0 - $214 - rebate $30 final price $194

and as i said earlier this can be softmodded to a geforce 6800 Gt

as ur budget $700 i think u can add these two.

good hunting

Why did you like the mobo you chose? It's more expensive and older tech than the one I recommended first?

Here's my modified recommendation.

Mobo: $89.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...536&CatId=1569

Cpu: $147.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

Ram: $91.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Tab=2&NoMapp=0

Video: $179.99(-$30) (since it's a pci-e mobo, you'd need pci-e cards)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...351110&CatId=0
-OR-
Video: $234.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...229514&CatId=0

Case: $49.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...935378&CatId=0

PSU: $64.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...407918&CatId=0

Total:$627-682

You can't take for granted that the extra pipelines will work without artefacts once enabled & if it does work, you cannot take for granted that it will run at GT speeds, especially the Ram since it is not GDDR3.

Looking good. Spend more on the motherboard and video, since those are less likely to be upgraded as soon as the rest. You might put an extra few $$ in the PS because it IS important.

have fun

No, I don't trust brands like that, I mean what company names themself "premium", sounds like a name to fool someone gullible, "oh, premium brand, sounds good."
600w on a cheap psu, would not be the same as on a quality psu. A quality 600w psu would be like $150+
Ex:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...419091&CatId=0
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...523&CatId=1483

The vantec I listed underrates it self
If you add up the wattages, it comes to just over 600w max, about the same as the cheap psu, but much better build quality of the psu.

I also don't like the one review of the cheap psu.
"Worked great for 5 months, then crapped-out."
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...ab=11&NoMapp=0

The vantec has good reviews on the net, here's one.
http://www.thinkcomputers.org/beta/h...reviews&id=205

Hope this helps. I know the cheap one has "600w" and has "cool fans" and a side window, but if the components inside are cheap, it has a high probability of failure. I don't want you to have to replace it down the road, because that's a waste of money.(2 $50 psus are more expensive than one $65 one).
