Slow loading site? Need your feedback!

For some reason TechSpot was loading extremely slow for me this morning, that is, the whole site, normal pages and forums. It's almost for sure it has nothing to do with my net connection as I've been opening other pages pretty fast, it was just TechSpot.

So, I cleared my cache just to make sure and it got even worse, up to 3-4 minutes to load a page, that is insane!

I need more of your feedback so I can talk to the server guys with some more basis than just my personal experiences, yesterday night things seemed normal though.

Any info posted here is appreciated.

Hi Julio....

Ye - I tried at approx 7:40pm GMT and it was as slow as my wife... Didn't even bother to wait long enough for it to finish the page (1 or 2 mins+ )...

However i tried at about 8:00pm GMT and all is fine...

Looks like it corrected itself...

I tried it about a couple hours ago (you can see what time it was based on the time this message was posted) and it would load the top part of the page and thats it, not even down as far as the line with TechSpot OpenBoards > ......
the logo would load up though, it would say Done in the bottom left of the IE window too. Tried the main page with the same results. Phatman was also expierencing problems at the same time, maybe I can get him to post here and tell you exactly what his problems were.

Yes, the server problem was giving me MUCH GRIEF! I am setting up a new home network that is wireless and my homepage is ts, and when I would check if the net connection was up and I see ts not opening, I would go back to figuring out what the problem was. Thankfully, SNGX brought it to my attention that there was a problem with the boards shortly afterwards.

Heh, that sucks man. It's a good thing you found out fairly soon though, I know it would have driven me insane.

Julio I just noticed that it took a while for that casino ad at the top of the screen to download and start displaying. I am on a 10mbit and it took me probably 10 seconds to get. I am not sure if this is slowing things down

Oh it is on the reply page that I noticed it.

Thanks a lot for your feedback guys, it would be appreciated if some other members could add to this and let me know if any other slowdowns are noticed.

Whatever it is, I will be talking to our host tomorrow for sure.

No problems at all Julio - I've been on and off the site all day. Perhaps I missed the problems that were seen due to good timing.

HEH, be lucky
It really isn't a problem for me, but I was worried about our dialup and slow broadband users. I know that it can be quite a pain in the butt to sit and wait at a website that you frequent and want to check out (Like this one).

I had some problems Sunday morning here in the US with having to hit back 3 times before it worked. Problems appeared to have disappeared when I came back about 2 hours later.

I'm on a slow cable connection (64k - pretty much the best you can get in the city for the price if you get online all day) and still waiting more than a minute for accessing a website is out of the question, for obvious reasons.

Even worse if you are a frequent reader, EVEN worse if you are a potential new reader... and EVEN worse if you own that website

Not much of a big deal anyway though, just needed proper feedback so I could get hard facts to show the server people who are always very nice to us.

I haven't noticed any other slowdown after the day I posted the note here however it could be happening on peak or non peak hours and go unnoticed though it'd still be hurting the site.

Thanks again for your help guys.

I agree with you Julio.
Today I haven't noticed any problems with a slower loading part or page. But I will keep you informed if I find one

I get that error occationally too, usually I don't hit refresh though, I just go back and click on the link again. And its not always occuring on reply, sometimes just clicking on a thread.

I've noticed that the ads are usually slower to load than the site, or rather, they are what make the site load slow...

Though I don't have a stable connection to be able to give you a conclusive analysis, my 56k connection is always slow, and in school we have a 2mb connection but it's overloaded with traffic.

i.e. on early mornings and afternoons I get 20ms when I ping most things (including TS) but on "peak" hours we have big problems with our network, simply because to many people share the line...

(lost packets 3000+ ping times etc...)

I've noticed it too...

These last couple of days the site has loaded as it should, but the ads seems to be slowing things down...
My net connection is somewhere between 314kbit and 704 kbit (my isp hasn't quite figured out how much to give me yet ), so it should load quite quick...

It sometimes takes about 1 min for the ad's, which is quite annoying...

That sounds like something most sites suffer from, though we served a high percentage of our ads using iframe tags so that ads don't slow down the page downloading process; it works fine most of the time.
