Hello and welcome to Techspot.

If you go to your drive manufacturers website you should be able to find the fimware update you are looking for, if there is one.

There should be installation instructions either on the website where you got it from, or perhaps a readme file in the download itself.

Other than that you may just need to run the setup file, and follow the on screen instructions.

Ok. If you point me to where you got it from, I will try to find the installation instructions for you.

Also have you tried booting from the floppy?

Here is someting i found but i cant really understand any of it, im sure u computer pros will no wat to do How do u boot to real dos??????

LG GDR-8161B Auto Reset Firmware

An Auto Reset firmware is an RPC2 firmware where the counters and region
selection are stored in RAM and not committed to flash. Every time you
power up your system or reboot, the counters and region will reset so that
no region is selected and you have 5 user changes. Your player software or
operating system will prompt you to select a region whenever a disc from
a different region is inserted. If you use discs from multiple regions
this should not come as a surprise, but if you always use discs from the
same region you will see it every time you restart the drive. It resets
itself, if you don't understand this then you probably don't need to use
this firmware.

In all other respects the drive will function and report as normal.

There is a BETA RPC1 firmware for those who absolutely have to have one.

All these OEM firmwares have been tested on a singular drive, other
users have tested them on their own OEM drives.

F FUJITSU T042 3-Sep-2002

U 0102 15-Mar-2003

D HP/COMPAQ 0046 9-Jul-2003

We suggest you use the firmware that matches what you have now.

Firmware from a different OEM appears to work, but don't come complaining
if it doesn't.

Flashing this firmware requires some risk on your part. If you are not
comfortable with this please do not proceed. We have tested them, but
cannot guarantee they will work or flash correctly in any environment
out of our control.

The update requires a boot to Real DOS, and that you have ~500K memory free,
so DOS will need to load high, and don't load any drivers. Booting a DOS
hard drive is perfectly good. If you do not have a floppy drive, or other
means of booting DOS, you should consider making a Boot CD and copying the
program and flash image to a RAM drive before flashing. We would do this
for you, but we are lazy.

The command line to use depends on your system, thus

flashup xxxxauto.dld 0 /C /O (Primary Master)
flashup xxxxauto.dld 1 /C /O (Primary Slave)
flashup xxxxauto.dld 2 /C /O (Secondary Master)
flashup xxxxauto.dld 3 /C /O (Secondary Slave)

Here`s what you need to do.

Put a blank floppy into your drive, and from within my computer right click on your floppy drive and select format.

Once your floppy disk has been formatted, right click on your floppy drive again, and select format, and create ms dos startup disk.

Once this has completed, put the firmware files onto the floppy disk.

Now reboot your computer with the floppy disk still in your drive. It should boot from the floppy disk. If it doesn`t you may need to go into your bios and set the boot priority to floppy(A)/cd-rom/hdd and save and exit.

The command line to use depends on your system, thus

flashup xxxxauto.dld 0 /C /O (Primary Master)
flashup xxxxauto.dld 1 /C /O (Primary Slave)
flashup xxxxauto.dld 2 /C /O (Secondary Master)
flashup xxxxauto.dld 3 /C /O (Secondary Slave)

You need to type one of the above commands at the dos prompt making sure you type it exactly including the spaces before the forward slashes.

You type the command which corresponds to the position of the drive you are trying to flash. Example if your drive is set as secondary master, then you would type the third command in the list above which corrisponds to that.

Go HERE and read my post. This is because we need your full system specs.

Does your sytem meet the minimum system requirements for the game?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game?

It doesnt install, when i put the disk in the drive it makes a tickin noise but the computer doesnt detect the disk. My computer does meet the min spec and it plays games like half life 2 without any problems.

The ticking noise is your drive attempting to read the disk.

Perhaps the disk itself is faulty. Have you run a cd lense cleaner through your drive.

Does your drive read most other disks ok?

A cd lense cleaner is a cd that has small brushes attatched to the playing surface of the disk. You simply put it in your drive and follow the instructions.

Usually this means skipping to the cleaning track when prompted to do so.

They are not expensive to buy typically around $10 or so.

That`s why I said it might be the game disk itself that`s faulty.

Look at the disk carefully. Can you see any fingermarks, or scratches etc?

Can you take the game back and get a new copy?
