I will attack you in cyberspace!

In another great round of articles and posts on The Register ( www.theregister.co.uk , www.theregus.com ) I have been having much hilarity as a result of reading "Flames of the Week"

Andrew,

you have exaggerated by making "fun" of Beth Goza's weblog! if you will not apologize her publicly (in the www.theregister.co.uk ) and admit publicly that you was wrong,

then I will publish negative information about you at http://WirelessSoftware.info and I will ensure that it will be apppearing at FIRST PLACE in Google.com after typing "Andrew Orlowski" and clicking search!

* * *

I know that you are blind hater of Microsoft but getting personal with Beth - that's I don't like and I will not accept. I know also that you don't like weblogs. But, but, but: criticize Microsoft and weblogs at will but leave Beth Goza alone for God's sake!

I am also pissed off that you - an American of Polish origins (I am regular Pole from Poland that happens to live in Finland at this moment) are making bad fame for Polish people in general (your family name is clearly Polish)...

So, either apologize her publicly or I will counter-attack you in cyberspace!

Respectfully,
Jacek Rutkowski (jpzr).

I wanted to quote more but there were some bad words, so you will have to look them up for yourself....

I can't count how many flame wars I've seen on TS, mostly by one unmentionable person in particular. Heh, I bet by me saying that it will turn into one

I can see it now...

I tried to find a recent one, but the thread was deleted

flaming is very childish and leads to nothing but more problems. Just ask Rick, the board he used to co-Admin with me had a flame war that lasted over a month, all started by a drunk who went to another board and posted some garbage in the name of Wasteland Tech(the board I ran) it ended horribly and my board died out shortly after it was over because of having to ban people and because some members stopped posting because it had gotten so bad that the people responsible started posting their flames to every post. At one point I had to lock the board down and pre approve new members because it was impossible to keep them out otherwise.

Wow SB...good story, but quite sad. Sorry to hear that...but that's just people today. The same thing will not happen with TS, simply because we don't have enough of the type to do that

That was BEYOND a flame war.. It was better described as World Wide Web War I®. The amount of banning, stupidity, and need for moderation was rediculous. There were instances when I would spend all night cleaning up "spammed" posts. Then some uneducated fools would "express their opinions" as the defacto standard for all to see... Then someone from our board would go to theirs and give them the what's for.. etc. It was the worst mess of any board I've seen...

Name bans.. IP bans.. Host bans.. It just kept getting worse and worse until we could finally reach some agreement. I'd hate to see something like that happen here.

I'm not too worried about that here. We are all reasonable people and Julio runs a tight ship.

We had had a few problematic members who have posted rather unappropriate things in the past, but thankfully the ones who have ended up staying have realised that the TOS (Terms Of Service) make for an improved forum in the end with the information contained within being suitable in content for all ages and less rubbish to search through when searching for data. Flame Wars are one reason you don't see the "Intel vs. AMD" thread title pop up very often here
