I guess it is all a matter of opinion. Looks like an AMAZING system, but here's the changes I'd make if it were me.

Downgrade that CPU to something like a Athlon64 4000 or so, and spend the extra cash on a 19" monitor. Most applications are not making use of dual CPU technology yet, and I like to have a BIG monitor.

Also, bump up to the premium version of that board. The Deluxe version has a fautly chipset fan (not all, but many).

NICE COMPUTER!

Hi skitzo_zac,

Your specs look vert good. I'd suggest you think about what you're using the PC for. Is it more for gaming or business use? If its gaming, you can jack up the RAM and maybe even consider dual CPUs for extreme performance.

if you can afford it

If you can afford it, the best gaming display is the Dell 2005 FPW. It is a 20.1 inch widescreen with 12ms response time. It gets great reviews. It's around $430 USA Dollars. Here is a link.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/P...ctlisting.aspx

(Dell has massive sales so check on the price once a week).

I would downgrade your processor to a 64 4000 or a X2 4200 and get the widescreen. The faster processors just don't pay off. Good Luck.

Building it

So there are basically no problems with that system. But say i do get the money and i buy all the parts how hard is it put it together and how long would it take? keep in mind that the most experience i have with building computers is when i put a firewire card into my current system.

No good

Your system is fine, except the moniter. Seriously, that thing has gotten bad reviews for gaming. You're much better off with the Dell 1704 FPT. If you can swing $450 you should get the Dell 2005 FPW. It is an incredible bargin. I would downgrade the processor and get it.

Why not balance the parts a bit better ? Fastest CPU & GPU is not the only thing to look for. You shouldn't skimp on the sound/screen department either. Without going all out like Spartan is offering, there are very good 19" LCDs that are perfect for gaming. Also get a better set of speakers, something along the lines of Logitech or Altec Lansing & preferably a 5.1 system (unless you only play with your headphones).

There's also no need for a CD burner if you already have a DVD burner. It can do both. You can also throw away the floppy drive IMO.

With the rest of the comments, my take would be chaging the HDD subsystem.
Save some serious bucks going to a regular single, fast CPU. And change your HDDs.

I'd say put a couple 120gb SATAs in there on RAID 0 Striping, for speed. And a 3rd, perhaps IDE drive of 200gb or more, as a data/backup drive.

Or instead of that, perhaps get a 10,000rpm 74gb drive for Windows and games, and an additional 200gb+ drive for backup and data.
With all that fast hardware, a single HDD is going to end up being your bottleneck.

Otherwise, it's a good system, but I agree that the balance of parts is not very good. Some things could go down to let other things go up. The sound card is mediocre, and if you want a 2.1 speaker system, get a THX certified one.

Good luck

Do you remember when you went from a 15" to a 17" and how wonderful it was? Have you ever tried to use a 15" since then? It is SO TINY!!!

That is what a 17" monitor is to me now, since having bought a 19".

Dream PC

Hiya.

It looks ok to me. As long as your hardware is compatible, u shouldn't have any trouble. Check for white papers and known issues with Asus, Seagate, etc to make sure u aren't missing anything. Failing that, u should be fine. Go for it.

My goodness, that's an expensive case, and doesn't come with a good PS already?

I'd look in to some Lian-Li cases. I've always liked their stuff.

dude, go for 2x120Gb (or higher) HDD instead of one insane one.

it would be easier to format, plus if you have one HDD just for applications and the other for other bits n bobs... then games etc will load quicker
