As you might have guessed this is a driver issue
![]() In the first error - Windows instructs the hardware to change it's power state, however the driver fails in doing that and throws this error. In the second case - the driver referenced a bad/non existant IRQL - frequently happening because of a problem with the driver itself, or a corruption in memory. Try updating your chipset, graphics card and sound card drivers to their latest version. Somehow I think it's either the chipset drivers or the graphics card driver giving you these problems, start by updating them and then report back. Last edited by Arcanum; 12-17-2005 at 12:08 PM. |

Maybe memory is not compatable? Playing around with these voltages a little should be okay (watch CPU temps,) but I know nothing about your system. |

Motherboard drivers and chipset for VIA, Intel and Nvidia.
I think it may be a chipset driver issue.
You need to know two things first… 1. Is your mother board an Intel, VIA or NVIDIA (nForce)? 2. What chipset model/version is your motherboard? You can download one of these utilities to figure all kinds of cools thing about your hardware including motherboard brand and its chipset version. - Sandra Lite 2005 - Freeware – The Best out there. A little confusing to use - EVEREST Home Edition 2.20 – Freeware - Easier to use but sadly is not discontinued as of December 2005. If it’s Intel then download the correct chipset software driver here… http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/ If it’s VIA then download correct chipset driver here… http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=1&CatID=1070 If it’s NVIDIA then down load the correct nForce driver here.. http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp Be sure to post back what happens so others on the forum can benefit. Good Luck! Da barf! Last edited by barfarf; 12-29-2005 at 10:23 AM. |

Get the newest ForceWare drivers (81.98) from:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html You gave us a round down of your rig's specs, yet you failed to mention what chipset/mobo you have - could you please look into it. If it's an nForce, go to this page and download nForce drivers depending on the version of the nForce: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp If it's a Via chipset go to: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=1&CatID=1070 as barfarf said and donwload the drivers. Before installing any of these drivers, be sure to uninstall the previous ones, then reboot, and proceed to install the new ones - first install the chipset drivers then the graphics drivers. |

Well xjes it appears your motherboard is part of the "Asus A8N-SLI" series. Which is a AMD nForce 4 chipset. In fact its one of the first SLI motherboards. Arcanum you had the right idea on updating the drivers.
Here is the link to the lastest 6.7 drivers for nForce4 AMD Edition mother board for Windows XP. http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_..._amd_6.70.html - in the directions it mentions you need to have at least Windows XP SP1 Also try updaing the bios on your motherboard. Go here and be sure to enter in the exact motherboard you have. http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us - Its a motherboard socket 939 but is it a "A8N-SLI" or "A8N-SLI Deluxe" or "A8N-SLI PRemium" or "A8N-SLI SE". good luck chris |
