SQL Server worm on the loose
As you're probably aware the Internet has been performing a bit awfully over the past day, heck it even made it impossible to download email from my ISP, which Tech Support confirmed.
Steven Bink's Windows page has a good deal of information about this so go check it out if you're interested in the details. The main thing to learn from this it seems is that Server admins still have not learned to apply updates (available since mid last year), which would have negated this worms affect. Thanks as well to SNGX1275 whom I see has posted a related story in our forums before I posted this one. |

My favorite Windows security resource page Gibson Research have also put up an information page about this worm.

From what I can tell, the fix is available as a stand-alone on top of Service pack 2, but if you download and install service pack 3 it includes this fix. service pack 3 was very easy to install, and was not too big a download.
By the way, that's service packs 2 and 3 FOR MS SQL SERVER, not for Windows 2000, etc... |
