30gigs of missing hard drive space

I just recently reformatted my computer and I am using Windows XP. My hard drive capacity is 127 gigabytes. Well after I finished reformatting and installing programs once again, I noticed somthing wrong. I currently am only using about 20 gigs of my hard drive space so that would mean that it should say that I have about 100 gigs of free space out of 127gigs. However it is actually telling me that I only have 70 gigs of free space left. This is a NTSF system btw. I have no idea why it is saying that I am using 30gigs that I am not. I have tried doing chkdsk, disk cleaning, as well as a reading many forum posts, none of which help me. So please respond if you have any ideas on what I should do. Thanks!

Hi Treefuzz,

are you sure that the old os was really removed?
So when you formatted you got the total free amount of space,
after installing xp, you suddenly miss 30 gb?
Have you made any partitions?

What are the specs?
During reboot try F8 to see if there are multiple os's.
Also look in start/thiscomputer/(rightmouse)Management/diskmanagement.

Grtz,

System specs
Check in Disk Management, that will allow you to see how big the drive is and what partitions are on it, it should show up the actual size in there.
