Hi.

I'm not exactly an expert on DVD burners, having just gotten one myself.. But.

There are a lot of possibilities as to why you're experiencing a slowdown. Some possibilities are hardware related... your burner might be losing some speed due to age, or problems with your mobo..

The most likely thing that comes to mind, without having your pc here in front of me, is that your system might be a bit clogged. Sources of this can be anything from a registry seriously cluttered with dead entries to a bunch of adware/spyware/malware sucking up system resources.

To give your system a good solid cleaning out, I recommend the following programs, all of which are free:

Toniarts Easycleaner (http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm)
Very useful for registry cleaning, among other things. I've used it for years and never had it break anything, ever.

CrapCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp)
Cleans/fixes a whole host of bits which can lead to poor performance. Very easy to use.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware Personal (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)
One of two good anti-adware/spyware/malware cleaners I use and recommend.

Spybot Search-and-Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html)
The second of the two good anti-adware/spyware/malware cleaners I use and recommend. The "Immunize" feature is especially nice.

These programs pretty much constitute my "maintenance suite" that I run every couple of weeks, just to keep things running nicely. I've also found that Ad-aware and Spybot S&D compliment each other nicely, with one catching things that the other occasionally misses. Just remember to clear out the quarantine lists.

Also, you might want to run a virus scan, just in case you've got something loading gunk onto your system. If you don't have the software, free online virus scans can be found at these sites:

F-Secure:

McAfee:

Panda:

Kaspersky:

Symantec:

BitDefender
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/license.php
Freedom Online scanner

Trend Micro Housecall

Hope it helps.
