Slave Hard drive only shows on restart

Ok,
I had a Maxtor 30gig hard drive ,I bought a new Maxtor 80gig drive .made the 80 master and 30 slave . Went into the bios auto detectd both drives fine.
Now the 2 drives only show up when i restart. If I shutdown then put pc on it will only show the master drive .Then i restart and the slave drive will show up.that is the problem .no problem to get info from one drive to the other copy paste ,it is ok .Is there anything that I can do to make to slave drive show up when i first put the computer on.Cannot figure it out .It has been like this for about 6 months ,thought maybe give you guys a try in this forum.
Thanks

System specs
Make sure both hard drives are set to cable select (jumper setting on the back of the drives), then make sure the 80 is on the end of the data cable and the 30 is in the middle. Set them both to auto in your bios and that should fix it.

Hope that helps. Rik.
