Problems starting PC after building.

hello,

i just built my first pc today, and i *think* i have put in all cables right.. but when i press the start button, the fans go for like 0,02 seconds and then everything shuts down
anyone know what can be the problem?

As coolmatt says, give us your full system specs please.

Couple of quick questions:

1. Did you use the "riser pins" under your motherboard to separate it from your case?
2. Do you have two connections to your motherboard from the power supply? The 20 (24) pin connection plus the additional 4 pin connection?

most likely it's something simple like the mobo is shorting to the case. Check the stand-offs are installed correctly and you use any supplied insulting washers.

Oh man I'm just tired, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
And another thing about those "insulating" washers, they don't even keep anything clean!

System specs
plastic standoffs are best.

some old schoolers argue that metal stand offs help ground the board.

others argue that an inadvertant ground will short it.

personally I side with plastic to avoid shorts.

I was going to say that as well, try checking that.
