I'm hoping someone can help me with an almost daily problem i'm getting with blue screens. Examples of the resulting event viewer error codes:

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bf819e5c, parameter3 f47447f4, parameter4 00000000.

Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 8056a69c, parameter3 f7c5ec4c, parameter4 f7c5e948.

Error code 1000000a, parameter1 0008000c, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 804dc406.

Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 8056a69c, parameter3 f7c5ec4c, parameter4 f7c5e948.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c000001d, parameter2 80563e5a, parameter3 ba9b0c78, parameter4 00000000.

Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 8056a69c, parameter3 f7c66c4c, parameter4 f7c66948.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bfc78eed, parameter3 f2121d00, parameter4 00000000.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 00000070, parameter3 f51b6a24, parameter4 00000000.

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 80578a78, parameter3 ef010af0, parameter4 00000000.

As you can see "8e" seems to be a firm favourite. Does anyone know if it's a driver problem or maybe a hardware problem (RAM)??

The blue screens don't usually make reference to any particular files, so i haven't a clue where to start investigating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's beginning to really get me down!

usually indicative of hardware failiure. Run memtest86+ from a floppy.

I'll give that a go but i've heard memtest isn't always reliable?

Both your minidumps crash with 1bit memory corruption.

It is true that some faulty ram can pass Memtest. If memtest gives your errors, your ram is bad.

Is it worth me posting more minidumps for you to check or are you pretty sure from my last ones that it's likely to be bad ram?

Right, i've just run memtest overnight and it came back with no fails and 23 passes (ran it from a bootable cd). Any more suggestions? Shall i post the rest of my minidumps?

Again your minidumps are crashing mostly with memory corruption.

A ram problem seems the most likely, but a faulty, or underpowered psu, or a faulty mobo could give you the same symptoms.

Try changing you ram and see if that helps.

Hi Mr H, thanks for your help. Looks like i've got a lot more fussing to do before i get this sorted. Out of curiosity, i've recently reinstalled Windows with sp2, whereas before i was using it without any service packs. Plus i've added a new GFX card (GeForce 6800GS) and replaced a 60gb HDD with a 250gb model. I experienced no bsod's before making these changes to my machine, so i'm wondering whether you think one of these changes could be linked to my problems? I was thinking maybe video card ram, although the errors tend to occur when there's not much going on (i can play games for a few hours without there being any problems) which makes me second-guess this theory! As far as the PSU goes, it's an Antec 480W which should be pretty reliable, so i'm less inclined to think it could be that.

Thanks for checking everything out for me thus far, your help is really appreciated. I'll probably make this post my last regarding this matter if there are no more steps you can suggest.
