Ping for gaming

Ok this is really wierd... On nearly every server i ping identical.. i get a 50 ping.. i have no idea why i was wondering is there a way to change this so that its not always a 50 ping? Even when servers are extreemly close to my house i get the SAME THING lowest it goes is 48... i have a netgear model wgr614 ... i even tried dmzing my ip but it did nothing for the ping.. is there a place to possibly lower the ping? any tips???

Do a tracert to the servers of choice and see what the latencies and hops are. My guess is the router is transparent, meaning it adds no latency, or adds very little, as in 10ms or less. If that is the case, it is out of your control, and 50ms is awesome, I would not be complaining.
