Athlon XP 3200+ is same die as predecessor

AMD has confirmed that their new XP 3200+ processor uses the exact same core as do its predecessors, 2800+ and 3000+ rated CPUs. AMD said that CPUs are physically and electrically the same, meaning that AMD determines how capable is a batch of Athlons (Barton) and then designates guaranteed speeds.

The newer XP 3200+ processor runs on a 400MHz FSB at 2.2GHz versus 3000+'s 2.167MHz and 333MHz bus.

Speaking of which, only a few days ago we were talking about AMD not offering more high-end Athlon XP CPUs and while that may remain true, The Inq reports that AMD is leaving the door open for now and may offer a 3400+ processor soon before the Athlon 64 takes over later this year.

What do you mean by that?

Intel does the exact same thing, as does VIA...
