A friend gets an error message right after booting up. "DirectCD.exe - Entry point not found" The procedure entry point CDUCF_Ismediablank could not be located in the Dynamic Link Library CDUDFLIB.dll" Any ideas? No CDUDFLIB.dll file in registry.

The first thing he should try is to reinstall DirectCD (the latest version he has available - it comes with Roxio Easy CD Creator). If that doesn't work then I've no idea what else he could try.
