What programs are using up bandwidth?

I've been desperately seraching for a program that monitors what programs are using bandwidth and how much bandwidth they are using... As a dail-up user, I need every kbps i can get, and i've been hitting unexpected slow spots. I'm virus and worm free, so I assume it might just be an automatic updater of some sort... Does anyone know of something that will tell me what programs are using bandwidth and how much they are using?

What sort of firewall do you have? Some of these have exactly the kind of monitoring ability you need.

Just go into your Firewalls program permissions, and set all to "ask".

Then you will know exactly what is using the connection.

get Currports
to see which Apps are active on which ports. when run with admin rights,
you get the path to the module that opened the port.

I dislike AUTOUPDATE too and have disabled many of them.
I want to know when/what updates are being offered and to choose
the moment of install -- just my preference.

Until they 'call home' however, there's no traffic. I used Spybot S&D to
review all Startup programs and disabled the updaters from there.
