IBM and Infineon have been hard at work in the development of a new kind of memory that could enable computers to boot up instantaneously. This new type of RAM touted as "magnetic random access memory" or MRAM, could replace existing forms of DRAM as early as 2005 according to IBM.

Unlike current versions of computer memory found in everything from PCs to handheld computers, MRAM uses magnetic charges rather than electrical charges to store memory.

Another interesting feature of the magnetic RAM technology would be that of replacing Flash memory as well because it retains information when power is turned off.

At last We have read all about it. Now this idea has proof of it taking off. Just wait, next we'll have MRAM hard drives (or something similiar). And a mere 2 years away...Woo

Yeah, magnetic disk drives would be a great idea.
