Trident and SiS Graphics announce merger

Trident Microsystems today announced a significant restructuring of its operations involving both the Company's Graphics and Digital Media businesses. Trident's Graphic division will be merged with XGI, the graphics unit previously spun off from Silicon Integrated System Corp (SiS).

The merger is expected to give the new XGI some advantage in the mobile market given Trident's strong presence there, while Trident itself will exit the PC graphics market and will shift its focus to digital media products such as high-definition television.
