Use Notepad?

SAV is not a format. It is a generic extension used for save files and suchlike. The contents are pretty much arbitrary.

Where did you get that file from and what is it for?

since i was asked to find software for SAV file, i have discovered that i should be asking for software to read SPSS data documents.

I'm afraid i don't know much about this.
my friend's son is following an open university study. he has bought some CD that has statistics for the counties and cities of the UK. he needs the software to read what it has stored, it is in a form something like spreadsheet, and ms office cant read it.
