Bizarre IE/Outlook/Windows problem
I have a bizarre issue on a client PC running Windows 2000, on a domain, and wondered if it sparks a memory with anyone here. Here are the facts:
Symptoms: 1. IE won't load, it just restarts itself over and over with the "send error report" dialogue box 2. Outlook won't open, and offers an error dialogue box that reads "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook." Facts: 1. These programs work when logged on with any other profile 2. The problem profile is a brand new profile 3. The problem does not exist when this new profile is logged on to the terminal server What I've tried: 1. full virus\adware scan\scandisk 2. Cleaned out registry and temp. internet files 3. testing profile via terminal services (as mentioned) 4. check typical, necessary workstation services, which are all running (or were restarted JIK) Anyway, none of this would be intriguing, except that it is a new profile, and that it works when remoting. I would suggest to create another new user profile and see if the problem(s) still exist.
Alternatively, copy the data (without NTUSER.DAT) from an existing/working profile into the new user's profile. |

looks like some files are missing or corrupted. You may need to delete the profile and redo it.

We figured it out... *_*
I had domain users set as local administrators on the machine. For an old, nonexistent domain. Oops. |
