windows cannot access the specific device, path or file

Hello, To the members of this forum.
I am newbie on this forum. I wonder if someone can help me with my problem.
I have tried downloading software and also downloading updates also the drivers for the printers and the error message i keep getting is
Windows cannot access the specific device, path or file.You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.
I have windows XP(home). sp2.
I will appreciate if someone can help.

Hi

It sounds like the files are being downloaded to somewhere on the hard drive such as an admin account, and you dont have access to it.

I know XP disallows access to another users files if they have set them as private.

Are there other users on the PC and have they set their account to private, where are the files being saved to ?

No, I am sure it is only me and my son. He only uses for the email. So i am sure nobody has changed the account.

Hi

So where do the files download to, if downloading a file you normally get a save to box, where you can choose the destination on the drive,

Hi,
I am sorry the destination was always to Program folder.
I thank you for lookin into this. But finally I formatted the harddrive and now everything seems to be fine.

Download destination should be My Documents, not the Programs File
