UT 2003 video

Tiscali Games has posted a 5 min/55 mb wmv-video with footage from the upcoming UT 2003: http://games.tiscali.cz/clanek/patche.asp?id=3103

I was particularly impressed by the collision detection - bodies sliding down stairs convincingly step by step for example. Nice.

unreal series...

Unreal Aliases and Dates @ pc.ign.com
ok, this link should work cause you don't have to pass the ad page to get to the news page.
anyway, if it should not work, just go to pc.ign.com and see the news.

And what have we learned from all of this? They need to stop calling so many games Unreal.

From pc.ign.com:
generally and wrongfully believed to be what rests behind all of the next-generation Unreal embroidered games, this is not the case. As Epic has stated, no game will be powered by Unreal Warfare until Unreal Warfare is released. The technology currently delivering the graphical goodness in all of the above mentioned is simply known as the subsequent iterations of a continuing Unreal technology, or Unreal tech.

Been looking forward to seeing stuff running using Epic's new engine. Downloading it now. If I am not speechless afterwards I'll edit and give you my impressions

UPDATE:

Well with it being that classic lets use a video camera to record a monitor I was a little disappointed when the file began to play.
What I wasn't disappointed with was how the game looked. Halo on the Xbox looked out of this world (and it will look that way when it comes to the PC ) but UT2 looks as good, if not better. Actually I would go as far as saying it looks better. I particularly liked the demo section of the game where the developer shows off the collision detection. He shoots this dummy character from the top of a tower and it falls down the and hits off lots of sections. They way all the appendages move and change direction with each impact is totally convincing. Another brilliant section of the 5 minute+ movie is the corpses on a set of stairs. No longer will you have to put up with a corpse with half its body stuck into a slope or set of stairs, these sit on top of them and when shot they roll further down. If you have the bandwidth I recommend having a look. First though, if you haven't already, take a look at some screen shots as some parts of the video don't do the graphical beauty of the characters and environment justice (but I put this down to the whole video camera recording a monitor issue).

Overall I have played UT through the single player vs bots game and it was fun but I have never really taken to the online play. But with the release of this stunning Epic (pun intended) I think I owe it to myself to try this one out!!!

In fact it was so good that I am going to make sure every gamer that comes into the gaming forum sees it.
I'm going to make it sticky!

woah! I like it!

like demiurg said, there are some really impressive scenes where bodies are shot down the stairs, and move a LOT more realistically than in current FPS games....

I wish I had a fast connection to get that, I better wait for the demo that should be in the 100mb range instead of downloading the movie.

After watching it a third time I just have to comment that the guy playing in the first section of ingame play really isn't very coordinated as he manages to fall off the level he gets the lift up to twice in a row at least!!!!

Hehe. Try to be coordinated while some dude pushes you away from the screen with a videocamera in his hands.

UT 2003 hands on!!

these guys are so lucky!

UT 2003 Hands On @ pc.ign.com

Quote:
pc.ign.com:
The whole approach to the game is much more sports-oriented (as is evidenced by the title, Unreal Tournament 2003).
...
You'll select from a roster of "free agents" (more of whom will appear as you progress through the game). As the captain, you're responsible for leading this team through six planets worth of tournaments in your quest to victory. A salary rating for each player helps balance out the teams. Since you can't exceed a particular limit, you'll have to choose between leading a small force of trained specialists or a larger force of unskilled troops into battle.
...
As you play more matches, your team members get better. "If you put one guy on defense," explains James, "his accuracy is going to go up because he's standing still shooting. If you tell someone to go capture the flag then their agility might go up." Each map has a recommended number of players and if you use less, the team gets more experience. "It's a tradeoff between having more guys to ensure you win a match and having less to get a more experienced group."
...
Another of the "gratuitous" effect weapons is the Lightning Gun, which replaces the Sniper Rifle. Since the beam from the weapon is so noticeable, snipers will have to be a bit more mobile this time around. But for the reward of shooting someone and seeing their head catch fire, it's totally worth hoofing it a bit.
i like it! now, the only concern is the hardware requirements.
