iTunes installation problem with the iPod Service

first of all, note that I DON'T have an iPod.

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, which is 7.1.5, and while installing the software, I got this message:
"Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) faild to start.
Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

[Retry] [Cancel]"

pressing Retry button= another couple of seconds, and than the same error.
pressing Cancel button="Sure you want to cancel?"->Yes button=exit installation.

and I was like "WTH? OO"
It's not the first time I install iTunes nor QhickTime, but the first time I got this error.

Help please? =|

go to cp->Admin Tools->Services and STOP the existing service iPod Service

then install

While iTunes is not installed, there's no "iPod Service" in the list, but when I installed an older version (much older) of iTunes the "iPd Service" was added. problem is- it's already on "stop" mode, and I still get the same message. I tried to activate the service using "start" button but than i get a mesaage telling me the service didn't respond to the request in a timely fashion (Error 1053).

hum; I'm using 7.0.2 and electing to sit-pat for the moment.

You may need to flat uninstall; reboot; and reinstall a fresh updated copy --

HOWVER, be sure to copy your music to a secondary source!

here's my layout and the file usage as I understand it:

\Docs & Settings\$yourlogin\

*** IMO, these can be ignored and rebuilt after the reinstall ***
Application Data\Apple Computers\iTunes
(updates,logs,plug-ins, iTunes.pref and iTunesPregs.xml)

Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computers\iTunes
(thumbnails,iPodDevices.xml,i Tunes.pref and iTunesPrefs.xml)

*** capture this directory; it's all the stuff you've loaded from CDs & DLs **
My Documents\My Music\iTunes
(Artwork, iTunes Music, iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml)
please post your results for the benefit of others

System specs
Do you really need Itunes if you don't have Ipod? Media Monkey works but that's more for Audio though. Did you want to watch the movie trailers using Itunes?

hum; first it's 35MEG! second, that would be a redistribution of copyrighted
software which is a no-no!

if one of the moderators would take that responsibility, I can provide the
installer for v7.0.1.8

see the Installation Helps at Apple

Liron, I had the same issue. Try disabling Norton or Kaspersky (or any anti-virus software you might have running), then install. I had Kaspersky, disabled it, ran the install, and it all went flawlessly. Let me know if it helps.

so it seems I get the same error every time while trying to upgrade. I have completely uninstalled and ran CCleaner and went through my Application Data and Local Settings folders to look for anything indicating iPod Service. I think I shall go through the registry next. I have admin rights and it''s only been this version of iTunes. And I don't have any security programs to worry about because I don't get viruses thanks to Firefox, Adblock Plus, an updated hosts file, and Spywareblaster, and common sense of what links and sites I click and go to. But anyways. I don't understand why there is nothing about this on Apple's website. hmm. And no I don't have any viruses or spyware, so it's not that either.

And Liron Ferdinaro if you still need the iTunes 7.0.2 installer I can send you a link to it on Apple if you'd like. PM or whatever.

Actually I believe you're wrong. iTunes is freeware. Which means anyone can distribute it as long as its free. Thus sites like http://oldversion.com and http://oldapps.com exsist.

Here's all the old versions of iTunes
