Transferring files from Works7 to Works8

I am trying to help a friend transfer a works 7 database file on an XP machine to a Vista M/C which has Works 8 installed.A dialog box came up stating works 8 was trying to solve the problem and finally failed. Has anyone encountered this problem or can sugest a solution

hum; if it were a Word document, you could SAVE AS ... RTF

try exporting the data in some 'neutral' format, even CSV

System specs
can't help you with works, but you might want to use openoffice in the future. It is Free and fully compatible with word and other formats.

Works is a very poor program and incompatible with most other suites.
Try openoffice at www.openoffice.org

it exports into ODF, DOC, PDF, XML, and a whole lot more.
