Trojan.Packed.9 and no IE access

hi all,

i've spent all night running a full scan on my HP Pavillion laptop to try to get rid of the Trojan.Packed.9 virus. after the scan, the popups quit, but i am unable to access IE or get more than 3 minutes use out of my MS programs.

i hate to admit it after reading thru here, but i use Norton. whatever advice i'm given to reclaim my sanity (and means of work!), i will uninstall and use something more reliable.

til then, i will ship out cookies to whoever can help me clean this thing up!!

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the AVG Antirootkit scan.

thx for this -- am re-thinking the cleaning and am in the process of backing up data for a possible restore. haven't yet made up my mind.

i will respond back here when i do. more research to do yet.
