I have a hp 740i dvd writer it will read and write cd but does not recognize the presense of a dvd. It logs an event ID 7 in the event log saying bad memory block. I have done sys reload, driver and all software updates.

I fixed a similar problem with a new 80 core ribbon cable. No logic in that at all.....
