I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.

When I turn it on, screen remains black, but the computer continues to load.

I have a friend who also has an Inspiron 6000. I plugged my laptop screen connector to his laptop and my screen worked as normal showing my friend's sign-on screen, etc. However, when I plugged his laptop screen on my computer... his screen does not work but you can hear my computer load.

In another situation, I plugged in an external monitor to my laptop and it worked. I tried the Fn F8 but nothing happens to my laptop screen.

Is this an inverter problem or a work of a virus?

ITs an inverter problem, but definately not a virus because your friends screen works fine. you can always run a scan just incase
