Mod Eye Candy: Will it make the cut or make me angry?
Hey guys I was gonna buy the Dell Inspiron Slim 530s and give it a new case (you might have read my earlier post regarding that) and, as i said, i was going to trick it out a bit. Here's what i wanted to replace in the system to make it silenter and cooler:
500+W Noiseless or Close-to-Noiseless Power Supply (Under 40$, if possible) Silent CPU Fan (Nothing to special, could be anywhere from 5-18$, est.) Better Graphics Card (I'm thinking the HIS IcePro Radeon X1650 256MB or better, now that my system has (or will have) a PCIex16 slot -yah!) Possibly better sound card (Creative SoundMax X-treme Audio or X-treme Gamer) Some Power Supplies I was looking at were these: http://www.directron.com/rs450acly.html http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PSAP550&cat=CAS http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...x=240&code=015 And the Fans: http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...x=197&code=016 http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...x=231&code=005 http://www.directron.com/80l1a.html And the Cards: http://www.hisdigital.com/html/produ...d=250&view=yes http://us.creative.com/products/prod...&product=15855 http://us.creative.com/products/prod...&product=15853 That's about it for hardware, as some of it was mentioner in my earlier post) If anyone has some other suggestions or don't think these are the right things, please reply. NOW TO THE REAL POINT OF THE ARTICLE Wow so great i'm gonna get this system and soup it up the best i can, but after moving it to a custom case (for suggestions, please reply in my previous post) , obvisouly i, as a teenager, want some sweet neon and LED decor. So I'm wondering whether these 5$ 12" neon sticks I see are really that good or if I'll buy them, find that they don't work, and get angry. These cool-looking lo-tech extras are sometimes hard to find that are actually worth the money. Here's everything I wanted and can i please get some feedback on whether these are good or not?: Neon/Cold Cathode Lights: http://www.directron.com/lzbupcgre.html http://www.directron.com/ccflgreen.html http://www.directron.com/ccfl303uv.html LED: http://www.directron.com/mdled5bl.html UV Fans: http://www.directron.com/dfs802512m.html http://www.directron.com/centarus2.html Lighted Mouse: http://www.directron.com/lightedmouseb.html Lighted Keyboard: (These looked pretty awsome) http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...160-WB&cat=KYB http://www.directron.com/el7151.html NOT like I'm buying 3 fans or 5 neon sticks or 2 keyboards. I'm only showing some I have in mind. Also (as if this post isn't long enough!), can someone explain to me what exactly a heatsink is and refer one to me compatible with the Dell Inspiron 530s??? THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLY TO THIS GIANT POST! |

Ok first of all did you buy the dell yet? If you didn't I would suggest not to buy it.
![]() Trust me if you are going to spend $700 on a Dell then do all the upgrades and stuff it would be better just to build a comp from scratch. For one thing as far as I know dell still has the BTX form motherboards and cases and for the most part you can only buy ATX form motherboards and cases. The BTX are pretty hard to find and there is not much varity. So basicly the motherboard isn't going to fit into anything you buy. You can build a comp that is going to be the same price as a dell and it is going to be WAY better. So if I where you do some reaserch on how to build a comp and go that rout instead of buying a dell then getting a case and all that other stuff. Trust me its not really all that hard I just built my fist a couple of months ago and its totally worth it.

Sam said it all. Build your own computer man. IF you know enough about computers to be swapping out parts, with a little research and taking your time you would be just fine setting up your own computer. Just research the parts and compatibilities, etc. Buying from a big company like Dell then modding it really makes no sense. Economically you're going to spend that money on the Dell then the money on the parts. You could probably get the same stuff for significantly less, or you could use that money that you're planning on spending and end up with a better computer. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, the above is why I recommended some computer parts in the other thread instead of endorsing your buy a Dell and upgrade plan. If you bought the parts I recommended you'd have a computer your friends would or could be jealous of. Your upgrade a Dell plan is like putting lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig just with a little lipstick.

Halos...
All the neon and lit fans can be very cool, but it does not make a computer faster. If money were no object a cool computer for me would be: Processor Motherboard Memory Four Hard Drives Two Video Cards Sound Card Power Supply Case Five Fans CPU Water Block CPU Radiator CPU Water Pump Video Card Radiator Video Card Water Pump Windows Vista Ultimate (for playing around with) Windows XP Pro (for most everything else) Because I've always wanted to experiment with Ubuntu Last edited by Cinders; 08-22-2007 at 05:06 PM.. |
