I need help with domain managing

hi
i bought a domain , and i am trying to point it to my host (1&1.com), but in a week i have had no success. i guess being a noob in this subject helps.
i would like to know more about all this stuff, like what does a registrar do, and can i pass without one? etc.

please help me

Registrar vs Hosting: Imagine a registrar is like a car registry office (they have a domain name), and 1&1 is like your garage (they store your website files). You can take them apart, but they are easy to put together.

Domain display: This tells the web browser where your web browser resides. Check out the 1&1 tutorial (a must have!) or contact their support for step-by-step help.
