Optical drivers cannot be found.

My DVD drives are simply not showing up.

I have two DVD drives that I used to replace an old with that was making grinding noises. They're connected via IDE, both set to cable select, they power up, and the connections are fine. My drivers are all up to date. I don't see the drives on either My Computer, or on Device Manager.

One of the drives shows up briefly sometimes when I run the hardware scan. I put in cds, but it never reads the disc. It locks up.

Help!

In device manager does a section show up that says DVD/CD-ROM drives?

Also what brand and model drives are these

No, this section showed up for a short time, but I haven't seen it in quite awhile. It's not listed.

One is a Memorex 16x DL DVDRW drive. Who knows what the other is. I think they may both be Memorex drives. I acquired these from a friend.
