I lost my network card thing when i uninstalled something but it wasnt my network

i disabled my broadband network so that i could uninstall my firewall and now my whole net work connection is gone and that computer icon thats in your network folder is gone for me and i cant reset it up. i have broadband so it should always be on and already set up but its not..do i have to reformat? the reason i disabled it was so that i could uninstall norton 360 and i didn't want to be connected to the net so i used the norton program and when i was done i went back to enable my network but that icon that lets you reenable it is gone. please help, thanks for any help anyone gives me. btw I'm on a different computer right now.

you approach was correct; disconnect the internet and then uninstall Norton.
(see this for complete removal of Norton)

Once Norton is gone, be sure to activate your default windows FW.

Now you should be able to connect the system directly to the modem
Code:
modem---your.system
and if DHCP is active on your NIC settings, you should connect.
