Overclocking Q6600
Hi all,
I've recently built myself a pc: Asus PK5C Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (G0 Stepping) XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XT Corsair 4GB (4x1GB) PC2-8500 XMS2 Dominator 300GB Maxtor HD Windows Vista x64 ... and have overclocked the CPU to 2.8Ghz by incresing the FSB only. I know it can take more but I was just wondering if I was going about overclocking it the right way. Should I mess about with anything else or can I just crank up the FSB? I think I should tamper with the voltages and multiplyer... but not sure how. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. |

Basically, you just increase the FSB speed as high as possible without crashing applications under 100% CPU (and possibly GPU) load.
You'll have to adjust the memory multiplier at some point, otherwise your memory speed would be too high, and it would require high latencies in order to work. You may also need to increase the CPU voltage a bit for it to run stable. For example, I have a Pentium E2140 which uses 200 MHz FSB normally. I have DDR2-800 memory, so the memory multiplier is 4. I increased my FSB to 400 (100% overclock ) and dropped the memory multiplier to 2x so that it still runs at the same 800 MHz. I had to increase the CPU voltage to 1.275V for it to be stable (default was 1.2275).

Don't forget to lock the PCIe bus at 100!
The Bearlake Motherboaeds will automatically adjust Voltage if Req. |
