Bad hard drive, or error in the install of Windows, or a bad infestation.

ALWAYS run chkdsk /f before any attempt at defragmentation

You have several different firewall, virus, malware and other spyware programs installed. Make up your mind on what you want to use and uninstall the rest

A friend of mine had this problem earlier this week. I just did a fresh install for them and now it works.

Most likely corrupted Windows files.

hi!! latest update on the defrag issue (considering i haven't posted one for the longest while). I tried once again to defrag my main drive, and it still quits halfway, and also closes all the programs that i have opened up. It also tell me the ususal "system error" posting.
Should i worry?

I would worry because it is not normal.
A full reformat and reinstall would be the final test... or maybe just install on another driver first. That will tell you if the problem is on the hard drive or elsewhere.

Should never be a 'usual' system error! You claim an error
but don't document it -- kind of hard to go much further until you
use run->eventvwr.msc and then scroll thru system, application to find a recent Error.
Click the little document to copy the info and come back here, follow-up on the thread
and PAST the data.
