4th stick of RAM causing problems

Hi all - my first post!

Hope someone can offer some advise here. I have 4 x 1gig sticks of ram on an Intel 975 bad axe 2 mobo. The computer though will randomly not boot. Board lights and fans kick in (no beebs) but it refuses to load the OS. It just hangs, monitor does not kick in and keyboard mouse dead.

It gets more random further as I will switch the system back off, then back on again and most of the time on the third attempt it will boot successfully!

As I am running Vista ultimate 32bit it does not recognize all 4gig memory, but I plan to upgrade to 64bit version this week - but will this solve the boot problem or am I looking at a hardware failure (which surely seems unlikely as it eventually runs and is stable when running! Any sugegstions?

Further more I know it must be the RAM as I took out the 4th stick and it seems to be happy again - but surely this it can't be as otherwise it would beep at me if a memory failure??

Full system specs:

Intel Quad Ciore Q6600
MSI 7900GTO
4x 1gig crucial (6400)
975 Bad Axe 2 Mobo
150gig Raptor
500W PSU

Thanks

Test your memory, one module at a time, using the free download, MemTest86.
Any errors at all mean your memory module is bad.
Are you using full feature first tier memory modules, or Value Ram?
