5.1 to 6.1 confussion issue

My fiance is getting my some Yamaha NS-P436 6 speaker + subwoofer for xmas. 6.1 if i am not mistaken. Thing is, on newegg there is only 5.1 and 7.1 sound cards... i currently have a 5.1 sound card in my PC now. can i use my 5.1 card on these 6.1 speakers? Last question of the day, Since these are made for "home Theatre" will they hook up to PC sound cards? Sound cards are those prong type connectors and are color coded (my card has a black, orange, pink, green, and blue holes). I am a n00b at this stuff, so my appologizes for any "untechnical" words and phrases used.

6.1 is the same as 5.1 + a rear speaker in the rear center.

If the speakers don't have a function to set different speaker modes, you'll have to check how to connect 5.1 soundcard to it, or to get an adapter for speaker wiring.
