8600GT shareing Ram?

well i own a 8600GT and what i notced the other day is that, ontop of its 256mb Memory,its also shareing around 750mb for its self,pushing it to 1008mb Video Memory(acording to Dxdiag)

now, is it normal for the 8600GT To share Ram? if so That much Ram?!

and is there a way to make it so it dosent share any Ram,cause i only got 2gb and i dont want to get it to overheat orDamage it from having so much memory.

I can only guess since you did not post more info. Do you run Vista?
The video card doesn't do anything it's not told to do.
My set-up: 3GB ram, Vista Home Premium, 8600GT 256mb
total graphics memory: 1535mb
dedicated graphics memory: 256mb
shared system memory: 1279mb

Vista only uses it if it needs it. ie: gaming

i've the same config as u,mr backfire,i've 8600gt and 2gb ram,i don't know if it is sharing memory at all,but i think overheating should not be a problem as in my case gpu temp is always well below threshold temp even after running heavy games like vegas,oblivion,lost planet with max settings for many long hours.8600gt is a very good card and u will find very small no of complains against it...
