Add/Remove from Control Panel fails

I'm running Win 2000 pro with SP4 and all updates.

When I try to uninstall a program I find that clicking on Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel causes Notepad to pop up with an error message "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

Other Control Panel items work, so I suspected a corrupt registry value but restoring the registry from my backup program does not cure the problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

A friend of mine experienced this problem and he solved it by installing SP4. I think you should check your OS for updates. Good luck!

Sjbrand99,

I cannot enter the Add/Remove program. When I click on the icon in Control Panel it opens Notepad with the error message and NOT the Add/Remove Programs window. So, I cannot try to uninstall any program.

Ok I reinstalled Service Pack 4 and sure enough that cured the problem.

Thanks for the tip.
