add remove programs won't work

add remove programs won't open in windows 2000 pro. nothing happens when i click on it . the reason i need it to work is i have been trying to remove norton antivirus so i can replace it with software included in my broadband package. symantec sent the removal tool but it says i need to remove norton utilities first with add / remove programs, which of course i can't. any ideas folks? my level of competence on windows operating systems is very limited.

have you uninstalled any of norton yet? if not i suggest that you run a pc scan for virus's first. run the ones from HERE use at least three of them. it may well work.
