Amazon reveals three games in production; one will use Twitch's first currency

  1. At TwitchCon 2016, the annual convention for the game-streaming service, Amazon Game Studios made a couple of big announcements: the company has three major titles in production, and one of them will be the first to support a new currency developed by Twitch, called Stream+.

Breakaway is a four vs four “mythological sports brawler” created by Double Helix Games, which was responsible for the Killer Instinct reboot. At first glance it appears very MOBA-like, but it’s more of a mix between Rocket League, a tower defense game, and one of the popular multiplayer online battle arena titles such as League of Legends.

“The team set out to capture the hair-on-fire intensity of a brawler and the strategic depth of a brawler,” said Patrick Gilmore, the head of the Amazon Orange County studio, in an interview with GamesBeat.

Breakaway will be the first title to use the Stream+ currency. The game will “integrate directly” with Twitch, and viewers will be able to bet Stream+ on matches and “earn Stream+ coins by watching.”

Amazon didn’t reveal very much about the currency. Other than betting on the outcome of games, we still don’t know what users can buy with the virtual coins. It's also unclear whether it can be purchased using real money, or traded with other players.

After the recent controversy surrounding the Counter-Strike: Global Offense gambling sites, Amazon will likely have safeguards in place to make sure that the Stream+ currency can’t be abused for financial gain.

Another of Amazon’s three upcoming titles is Crucible. This third-person, six vs six shooter sees players battling and double-crossing each other (as in switching sides at any time) to become the last person standing. A 13th person will be able to take on a game master role, able to influence matches and interfere with proceedings.

The third and final title is New World, "a massively multiplayer open-ended sandbox game set in a living cursed land." Players can carve out their own destiny in 17th century colonial America, with total freedom over what they do and whom they side with.

Amazon didn’t give any release dates for the games, but the open alpha for Breakaway will begin “soon.”

For some reason this doesn't seem to be right, may be or may not be a correction.

Amazon stormed the tv with really good shows, I'm looking forward for it's games if they have anything like the production for the tv series.
    Reehahs and Panda218 like this.

Who's idea at Amazon was to call it stream+? That's the stupidest name I've ever heard. Jesus be a little more original.

First game will probably do well.

Second game will be great in concept and die out quickly like Evolve.

Third game will suffer the same fate as Kingdoms of Amalur.
